Free Resource for Training Your Bible Study Leaders or to Sharpen Your Skills if You Lead a Group
I was recently invited to provide training for Bible Study leaders in a local church. I have dozens of presentations I have used throughout the years and some of them many times over. For this occasion I was determined to develop and present fresh content. It was a great training event. I may or may not be able to come to where you are located but I have decided to give away this content. It is called "AM I?" and is filled with questions about what makes an effective Bible Study leader in a local church, no matter what you call your groups, what time the groups meet, or the size of the church. You can use it as an equipping outline with your leaders or you can read through and evaluate your leadership. Bear in mind that no leader is perfect and you are on a journey. The point is not to create guilt if you fear you are falling short in some areas but to instruct and inspire you to improve in some critical areas of Bible Study leadership.
The presentation covers five areas that are common among the leaders of Bible Study groups that thrive. That is your desire, right? Teach this to your leaders. You can create a listening guide of email me at sparrgbc@yahoo.com and I will be glad to send you mine. Evaluate your leadership and determine your next steps to grow as a leader of a group. Here it is...
AM I?
Dr. Steve R Parr
Am I clear on the purpose of my group?
The purpose of every Bible Study Group is to work together in fulfillment of the Great Commission.
We know this is happening when:
The lost are being reached out to.
Lives are being changed.
Leaders are being sent.
Your understanding of the purpose will impact your practice.
2. Am I teaching with the life-stage of my group in mind?
Am I prepared?
Am I leading with passion?
Am I being age-appropriate?
Am I using multiple methods to teach?
Am I being interactive?
Am I leading?
You can teach and never lead, but when you lead, you are compelled to teach!
3. Am I purposefully expanding?
Am I enlisting, equipping, and adding new leaders?
Am I increasing the number of people to minister to?
Am I ministering to everyone?
The leading indicator of how many attend your Bible study this Sunday is the number of ministry touches your group had in the past week.
Am I mature enough to manage change?
What if we are asked to change rooms?
What if we are asked to help launch a new group?
What if we are asked to send leaders to help elsewhere?
Change does not always lead to growth but growth always leads to change.
5. Am I leading my team to do outreach?
How are we doing at inviting?
Are we prepared for and open to guests?
How are we doing with follow-up of guests?
How are we doing with fellowships/events?
How are we doing at sharing the gospel?
The Bible does not command lost people to come to church but for the church to go to lost people.
